The virtue of patience in Islam

Allaah has made the patience as a horse that never tires, an army that never will be defeated and a fortress which never will be transfered. Patience and victory are twin sisters, since victory comes with patience, relief comes with difficulty and ease arrives with the vicissitudes. Patience is of more help to the person who has it than men, since aid without the need for any kind of additional equipment and its relationship with the victory is like the head with the body.

In the Qur'an, Allah has guaranteed to those who have patience that you will give them reward without measure.

He tells them that he is with them guiding them and supporting them and giving them a clear victory. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"Verily, Allaah is with patients" [al - Baqarah 2: 153]

Allaah has made leadership in terms of religion as a condition on the patience and true faith, as he says (interpretation of the meaning):

"And we did some of them exemplary leaders to guide the men with our will. This by being patient and having been convinced of our signs." [al - Sajdah 32: 24]

Allaah tells us that patience is better for those who are patient, as he says (interpretation of the meaning):

"But if you are patient [and forgive] will work best for you." [al - Nahl 16: 126]

Allaah tells us that if we are patient and godly, the enemies plan will not cause any damage, even if it is powerful (interpretation of the meaning):

"But if you are patient and fear Allah, his intrigues will not do you any harm. Allah knows what they do." [Aal ' Imraan 3: 120]

Allaah tells us that mercy and patience of your Prophet Yusuf led him to a position of power and strength (interpretation of the meaning):

"Those who fear [punishment] and are patients [to adversity] know that Allah will not fail of reward to the benefactor." [Yusuf12: 90]

Allah has linked to the success with patience and piety, and devotees so understand it. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"O you who believe! Be patient, persistent thirst, protect your territory of enemies and fear Allaah for you to have success." [Aal ' Imraan 3: 200]

Allah tells us that he loves those who have patience, and that is the larger the wind. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

'Allaah loves to patients' [Aal ' Imraan 3: 146]

Allaah has given good news of three things for those with patience, each of which is better than that which generates envy among the people of this world. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"And certainly I'll try with something of fear, hunger, loss of property, lives and fruits, but it albricia patients [who will receive a beautiful reward]." Those who say when it reaches them a disgrace: we really are from Allah and to him we shall stand seat. These are who their Lord grace with forgiveness and mercy, and are those who follow the Guide." [al - Baqarah 2: 155-157]

Allah urges his servants to seek help with patience and prayer in the face of the calamities that can happen to a person. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"Helps you with patience and prayer. "By the way that the practice of prayer is difficult, except for the pious" [al - Baqarah 2: 45]

Allah says that the victory of reaching paradise and saved from hell will be achieved only by those who have patience (interpretation of the meaning):

'Today I shall reward for your patience [to your hostility], and they will be the winners' [al - Mu'minun 23: 111]

Allaah tells us that the desire to earn your reward and move us from this world and its trivia who have patience and are believers succeed only. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"And those who were graced with knowledge said: woe to you!" Reward from Allah for those who create and act righteously will be better, but only get it who have been patient." [al - Qasas 28: 80]

Allaah tells us that repel evil with what is best for the wrongdoer to become a close friend. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"Is not equated Act good and evil act. If you are mistreated responds with a good attitude [knowing apologize], and then you'll see one with who had an enmity will become your ardent friend." [Fussilat 41: 34]

"This will not achieve it but who are persevering and patient;" they will not achieve it but those who [for their good attitude] receive a great reward [in this life and the other]." [Fussilat 41: 35].

Allaah tells us, and strengthens it with an oath, (interpretation of the meaning):

"I swear by the time that men really are lost, except for those who believe, act uprightly, are advised each other fully comply [with the divine precepts] and be patient and persevering." [al-'Asr 103]

Allaah will divide his creation into two categories: those who are in the right hand and those that are for the left hand (cf. al - Waaqi'ah ' ah 56: 8); those that are for the right hand are those that are recommended patience and mercy to one another.

Allaah has chosen patient and grateful people benefit from their signs and distinguish themselves by their great buenafortuna. Four passages in his book says (interpretation of the meaning):

"Verily, in this are indeed signs for those who are patient and grateful." [Ibraaheem 14: 5;] Luqmaan 31: 31; Saba 24: 19; as-Shura 42: 33]

Allaah has made forgiveness and reward status to do good deeds and to be patient and that's easy for who Allah makes it easy. Allaah says:

"Except those who were patient and worked good; will these obtain forgiveness and a great reward." [Hud 11: 11]

Allaah tells us that patience and forgiveness are among the things recommended by Allaah and those who adhere to this never lost, as he says (interpretation of the meaning):

"You should know that [Allah will reward to] who have fortitude and resolution is patient and knows forgive" [as-Shura 42: 43]

Allah ordered his Messenger to wait patiently her Decision, and told him that his patience is nothing more than Allah, and through patience all the calamities are alleviated. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"I know patient to the designs of your Lord, and know that you're under our eyes. "Glorify your Lord with praise when thou risest [a prayer], by night and hiding the stars." [en-Tur 52: 48]

And he said Allaah (interpretation of the meaning):

"Be patient and knows that patience is a virtue that Allah grants whom pleases him." You not apenes [by the unbelief of your people] nor h you by what hatch. "By the way that Allah is with the righteous and the benefactors ' [al - Nahl 16: 127]

Patience is the foundation of the faith of the believer which does not have another base. He has no patience has no faith, and if you have something of faith, is very low and weak, and such a person worships Allaah as if you were at the edge (in doubt): if it happens you something good, comply with it; But if something bad happens to him, the face gives back (again not believe after having taken Islam). He loses everything in this world and in the hereafter (cf. al - Hajj 22: 11). Do more to lose in that situation.

They have the best life blessed with patience, and they climb up to the highest levels through their gratitude. Therefore, they fly with the wings of the patience and gratitude to the gardens of delight (Paradise). That's the gift that Allah gives whoever he wants, and Allaah is the possessor of great gift. End quote from ' Uddat al - Saabirin of Ibn Al - Qayyim, p. 3-5.

Regarding the ahaadeeth which speak of the virtue of patience, here are some of them:

Al - Bukhaari (1496) and Muslim (1053) narrated that Abu Sa'eed ' Sa'eed Al - Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ".. .all that having patience Allaah will grant patience, and nobody ever receive anything better and more generous than the patience". And Muslim (918) narrated that Umm Salamah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah said: "there is no Muslim who has been affected by a disaster and not tell what Allaah has established-' certainly to Allah we belong and to him return." "Oh Allah, reward me for my pains and compensate me with something better '-Allaah will compensate him with something better".

And Muslim (2999) narrated that Suhayb (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "how wonderful is the issue of the believer, because his affairs are all good, and this applies only to the believer. If it happens to him something good thanks for this and that is good for him. If something bad happens to him, he tolerated with patience and that's good for him."

For more ahaadeeth about the virtue of patience and the warrant to be patient, see al - Targheeb wa'l-Tarheeb of to Al - Mundhiri (4/274-302).

' Umar ibn ' Abd al-' Azeez (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: Allah has not given any blessing to his servants to then remove them and replace it with patience, but it has compensated them with something better than they removed them.

And Allaah knows best.
